History: It is the oldest native black grape of Piedmont. Its name derives from the “fog”: according to some because the pruina covering the grapes would remember the fog; according to others because the late ripening of the grapes pushes the harvest at the dawn of the first autumn mists. Nebbiolo, also known as “the queen of black grapes”, needs careful care. It comes to maturity rather late (in the first half of October). It is quite sensitive to the thermal oscillations that allow the complete maturation of the berries, but the richness of tannins of the peel requires hilly positions well exposed to the sun, between 200 and 450 m s.l.m. , protected from frost and cold spring.
